Leicester Riders Players and Staff
Posted March 3rd, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
This will be the
last blog update before I upgrade to a fully functional
Wordpress blogging solution... hopefully next week.
In an effort to
test out my new lighting equipment I arranged a quick-fire
portrait session with the Leicester Riders Basketball team.
Unfortunately most of the players were called away on
promotional duties at short notice so a few of the
administrative staff also jumped in front of the camera.
They were pretty good substitutes as they were naturals and
weren't phased my the big lights shining in their faces!
Hopefully we'll be getting together again soon to capture
the whole team.
Considering the
limitations of the room we were set up in I'm pretty happy
with the results.

It was an honour
to photograph Bhav and Nisha's wedding ceremony at the
weekend. They made an amazing couple and had a great
family and circle of friends.

Staff Shots for Mewies Engineering Consultants
Posted February 13th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I'm taking a
series of photographs for Mewies Engineering Consultants as
they are having a new website and marketing material
designed. Today I went over to take some casual shots
of the staff at a training session at a hotel in Kegworth.

Redevelopment of Loughborough University
Posted February 11th, 2011 by Gary Summers of

I was asked to
take a series of shots for the Quorn based architectural
practice called Walters Architects who were involved in the
design, planning and project management of an interior
redevelopment project at Loughborough University. The
quality of work produced by Walters Architects never ceases
to impress me.

I had the
absolute pleasure of photographing the launch of the
stunning Bentley GT Continental at Bentley Leicester.
With such a beautiful car and stunning location the photos
almost take care of themselves.

Phoenix Square - Cafe People
Posted February 10th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
As part of an
ongoing project for Phoenix Square I popped down to take
some shots of people enjoying the cafe/restaurant/
Seriously, and I'm not just saying this, the quality of food
and value for money seems pretty unbeatable for me at the
Phoenix Square. My six year old son says that the
pasta he had there was the best thing he'd ever tasted...
and that was over two months ago!

Rainbows Children's Hospice
Posted February 8th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I occasionally
offer my photography services free of charge to local
charities. Recently I have been doing work for LOROS
and Rainbows Hospice. Scott Lea who is the main
fund-raiser at Rainbows Hospice is putting together a press
pack and needed some photographs of the hospice externals.
These were really tricky shooting conditions as the sun was
so low in the sky and casting awful shadows and glare.
There was quite a bit of retouching work required to bring
these shots up to standard. I hope I pulled it off.

Live Building Site Photography for Mewies Engineering
Consultants
Posted February 4th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I've been doing
a lot of photography lately for a Ibstock based Engineering
Consultancy. In VERY simplistic terms, one of the main
areas of their work is to plan the roads and foundations for
new housing developments. I spent the day with the
Managing Director - Eddie Mewies travelling around the
region visiting live site. It was a really grey and
flat day so these images needed some serious post shoot
processing to bring them up to standard.

The
Phoenix Square - Venue Hire Spaces
Posted February 1st, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
The second part of
my shoot at Phoenix Square concentrated on the venue hire
spaces. I was really impressed with the versatility of
the area. The facility could be used as one large space
or could be partitioned into three smaller areas - two of
which had state of the art white-boards and sound systems for
making those all important presentations. The furniture
could also be changed to suit different requirements such as
board room, catering, arena seating, etc...
The rooms also had
access to the impressive courtyard area. From the
outside of the Phoenix Square you wouldn't be able to tell
that a huge and spacious courtyard is concealed in it's
centre.

Animals at Wheelgate Family Park - Mansfield
Posted January 27th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I work quite
closely with Twinlakes Family Park in Melton Mowbray.
Having photographed some of their major events last year such
as Halloween, Bonfire Night and Winter Wonderland I was asked
to photograph some of the animals at their sister park in
Mansfield called Wheelgate Park.
January and
February is a very busy period for the marketing departments
at Twinlakes and Wheelgate as they have to prepare the
brochures for the upcoming year and new season.
Hopefully I'll be seeing quite a few of my shots appear in the
new material.

Emma Kate Dawson - Fashion Shoot
Posted January 26th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I was lucky to
have a studio session with an very talented model called Emma
Kate Dawson from the West Midlands. She was incredible
at posing and was happy to have an input into the shoot.
I tried to capture perspectives that were a little different
from the norm. I thought that they worked quite well and
produced images with a lot of impact... not everyone agreed
though!

I have developed
a relationship with an Ibstock based Engineering Consultancy.
On this shoot I was asked to capture a series of shots that
captured the essence and vibrancy on the HQ and staff.
We have arranged another shoot for in a weeks time when I will
be travelling around the region with the Managing Director to
photograph live and completed projects. These will
include road and transport systems and also live building
sites.

I have been
commissioned by the marketing department at Leicester's
Phoenix Square to photograph a range of shots of the cafe and
cinema which capture the vibrancy of the facilities.
This will be an ongoing project as I will need to return on
different occasions to photograph the ever changing crowds.
The photographs will eventually appear on the Phoenix Square's
website and marketing material.

Lil'
Jeth... Leicester's next big thing!
Posted January 22nd, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I had a shoot
with Lil' Jeth this morning - a Leicester based R'n'B
artist. He's on the edge of getting signed and needed
some promotional shots to supply to record companies and
agencies.
I hope that the
photos help him get noticed. He was a cool and
talented guy who writes, produces and records all of his own
tracks. His YouTube videos have had over one million
views so he's hopefully on his way to stardom. There
are two albums available on iTunes so search for Lil' Jeth
and check them out.

Walton Hall, Warwickshire - Venue for an upcoming wedding
shoot
Posted January 18th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
I'm
photographing a wedding in February at a venue that I was
unfamiliar with - Walton Hall in Warwickshire. Instead
of turning up on the day without any knowledge of the place
I took a drive over at the weekend to take a few test shots
and get a feel for the place. I've got to say that
it's in the most stunning location and is set within 65
acres of rolling countryside. I happy to say that
there are loads of great locations to photograph the bride
and groom.
Oh, and it used
to be the house of Danny la Rue in the seventies!
The venue was in
the process of winding down from an exhibition so you'll
have to excuse the table and chairs that are in a couple of
the shots.

Portrait session with David Williams
Posted January 15th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
On Thursday this
week I had a portrait session with a Leicester based
guitarist called David Williams. The main purpose of
the portrait session was to photograph David in a variety of
styles as he needed publicity shots to enable him to
register with music agencies. The shoot took place at
a bar close to the De Montfort University where we shot for
around ninety minutes. After we finished in the bar we
decided to have a stroll around the canal to get some more
natural looking shots.

PR
shoot for Michael John Carpets featuring Matthew Hoggard
Posted January 12th, 2011 by Gary Summers of

Earlier in the
week I had the opportunity to photograph the Leicestershire
County Cricket captain Matthew Hoggard whilst he was having
a new carpet fitted by Michael John Carpets. Matthew
is an absolute cricketing legend having won the Ashes
against Australia in 2005. He is also England's sixth
most successful test match bowler with and incredible 248
wickets.

Engagement shoot at Bradgate Park
Posted January 10th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
Engagement
shoots are becoming more and more popular with brides and
grooms these days. Are you asking what and engagement
shoot is?
Well, it's a
photo session that takes place before the big day in more
relaxed and fun atmosphere. It's also a great chance
for the photographer to get to know the bride and groom and
build up a more personal relationship.
I'm
photographing a wedding for a great couple on 29th April
(not Prince William and Kate Middleton... unfortunately!)
and we decided that a sunset shoot at Bradgate Park would be
a great location. The shoot took just over an hour and
we were all really pleased with the shots. Here is a
selection.

Leicester Riders basketball
Posted January 8th, 2011 by Gary Summers of
SMD Photography
Jade and I took
the kids to see the Leicester Riders on Saturday evening.
It's the first time for absolutely ages that I'd seen them
play and I'd forgotten how good it was. If you fancy a
change with the family the you'll have a brilliant night.
It's down to serious business as soon as the whistle blows
but before the game and during half time the kids are
allowed onto the court to shoot hoops with the basketball.
The match itself
was too exciting! It went down to the last three
seconds and we needed a three pointer to win. Our
player shot from outside the area and the three points
looked in the bag... but the ball tantalisingly bounced off
the ring and we ended up losing 76-78.
Here are some
shots that I took on the night. I'm not saying these
are my best shots but I thought they were worthy of a post.
After all I was sitting in the same seat all night so I'm
pretty happy with the selection I got.
